We initiate the damage control procedures, then meet with your insurance adjustor to estimate the repairs and construct a comprehensive remediation plan to return your home back to the pre-existing condition. As a remodeling firm, Zehm Bros. completes a large assortment of tasks and projects. We take steps to do things right the first time to avoid any unnecessary concerns or call backs. We can handle, very professionally, the small tasks along with the larger projects.

Ice Dam Repair

Ice dams are very noticeable issues in the Midwest area. They are caused be multiple reasons, but the key issues are:

The lack of ventilation and air movement in the attic space will trap heat or moisture leaving the only release through the vents or the roof deck in areas like overhangs where the transformation of cold air & moisture develop into ice. The overwhelming problem with ice dams is that ice grows &  moves under the roofing materials and eventually works it way down the interior wall or ceiling membranes. This will causes leaks & stains. Ice dams can also rot the deck membrane of the roof and in due course damage the protective shield of your home.

Shingle Repair

Shingles can blow off for various reasons, but mostly after heavy winds & hail storms. The visual black area of a missing shingle on your roof is what typically alarms homeowners to call a roofing contractor. The roof may be in harms way in different areas that aren't noticeable. We would be happy to inspect your roof and at the same time repair the missing shingle issue. Your roof may have a sealing problem as a whole or just an isolated issue where the shingle blew off. Gutters

Gutters can greatly benefit a home and landscaping, but can also add to potential problems if not maintained correctly. Gutters can help keep water away from your foundation and out of your basement. Gutters can also keep your driveway from heaving by the entrance (eave overhang style roofs) by keeping water away from the area and into the lawn areas.

Gutters are for the most part maintenance free. They just work when it rains, pretty simple, right?

For gutters to work correctly is easy, just keep the debris out of the them. By taking just a few minutes 2 to 3 times a year, going up onto the roof and running your hand or small cup like unit down the entire gutter removing any debris will prevent any build up. For those that don't enjoy spending time on roofs, another option is to take the garden hose and run it down the gutter. This will usually do a pretty good job and eliminate the gutter from overflowing at heavy rains.

Leaky Windows

Windows are to most homeowners considered "maintenance free". For the most part windows are, but there are areas that need to be checked periodically. If your home is 5 years old or older, the caulking should be checked and repaired. Caulking is the most unattended issue that we find and is also the leading source to window leaks and moisture in wall cavities. Caulking is very inexpensive compared to the thought of removing mold or rotted wood in and around window openings. Windows do get aged and loose their ability to protect themselves. Window glass can leak (seals age) and eventually rot out the trim moldings that surround the glass and then move downward into the wall cavity.

Please keep a close watch out for water drain marks around windows and take the time to check out the caulking to see that all areas around your windows are covered.

Siding Repair

There are many reasons that siding and trim get damaged. Typically its from rocks thrown from the lawn mower, children playing in the yard or maybe the grill got a little to close. Most types of siding can be repaired without much hassle. Our biggest issue is finding the product. Manufactures have a way of changing the product lines every 12 to 18 months on colors or styles that aren't a huge seller. This can sometimes create a dilemma to get the necessary pieces needed without purchasing larger quantities. We have multiple repair solutions to help combat these issues and to keep cost manageable.

Electrical

Please let the professionals do what they do best. An electrical fire is very dangerous and doesn't always ignite right away. It will spread as quick as a regular fire in your walls before you acknowledge it or can extinguish the flame.

ZBC can hang fans and other small electrical items, but we will call in an electrician to do electrical work.
